American Accent Muscle Training — Foundations

$199

The first two modules of my complete American Accent Muscle Training system, designed to teach you the tongue, jaw, and lip control you need before tackling the full American English sound system.

START TRAINING

Start with the part most pronunciation training doesn't teach in this much detail.

Learning an American accent isn't only about knowing which sounds to make. You also need to know exactly how your mouth is producing those sounds.

Your tongue has many different ways it can move, and small differences in tongue shape, position, muscle tension, and coordination can change the way a sound comes out.

That's why simply being told “put your tongue here” isn't always enough.

In the Foundations Course, you'll slow this process down and learn exactly how to control the parts of your mouth that you'll use throughout your American accent training.

You'll learn how to shape and position your tongue, control different parts of it independently, coordinate your tongue with your jaw and lips, and develop the specific tongue control you'll need for American English.

Then you'll begin applying that foundation to four core consonants of an American accent: T, D, N, and L.

American Accent Muscle Training — Foundations

Start with the physical skills behind American English pronunciation.

Before you start working through individual American English sounds, you need to understand how your mouth is positioned and how the different parts of your tongue work.

In this course, you'll learn how to:

  • Find the starting tongue position used in American English and learn to hold it comfortably.
  • Learn to soften, widen, lower, cup, and arch different parts of your tongue instead of moving your whole tongue as one unit.
  • Learn how your tongue, jaw, and lips work together to create the mouth shape used in American English.
  • Train your mouth to open from the back rather than relying on excessive movement in the front of your mouth.
  • Learn the schwa vowel, including its mouth placement and how it is used in words and function words.
  • Take this new mouth control into T, D, N, and L, learning how to use the correct tongue position and movement for these high-impact sounds.
  • Practice T D N and L in syllables, words, and phrases so you're not just learning where the tongue goes—you’re beginning to use that new control in speech.
WHAT? YES PLEASE!

This Course Includes A LOT of Visuals to Help You Master the Mouth Positions

You won't just be told where to put your tongue. You'll be able to see exactly what I'm doing and compare it with what you're doing.

  • Precise demonstrations of tongue shape, tongue position, jaw opening, and alignment with the teeth.
  • Close-up videos from multiple angles — front, side, and underneath — so you can clearly see how the tongue changes shape and position.
  • Real-time shaping, muscle cues, and corrections that show you what to change and help you understand what the movement should feel like in your own mouth.

You'll also see how these foundational positions are used in T, D, N, and L, so you can begin applying your new tongue control to actual American English sounds.

This is the same detailed approach I use with private clients, now organized into a self-guided course you can work through independently.

Mary is extremely detail oriented, she knows exactly what is going on with every little muscle in your mouth and how to position exactly to sound more American.

I am amazed at how much she knows and how she is able to convey that simply and efficiently.

BEFORE: I was imitating the American accent without actually articulating the sounds as a native speaker.

AFTER:
Thanks to Mary, now I know exactly how to move my tongue for each and every sound.

What you will learn

Module 1 preview

Module 1: Foundational Mouth Muscle Training

19 lessons

Build the tongue and jaw control that will prepare you to produce American English sounds more accurately.

You’ll learn the foundational tongue positions and shapes used in American English and begin developing the control needed to hold and move your tongue in new ways.

You’ll also apply this foundation to the commA (schwa) vowel, giving you an early opportunity to use your new tongue control in an actual American English sound.

By the end of this module, you’ll have a much clearer understanding of how your tongue should be positioned and shaped for American English—and a stronger physical foundation for the sounds you’ll learn next.

Module 2: Tip-of-the-Tongue Consonants

33 lessons

Put your new tongue control into practice with T, D, N, and L.

You’ll learn the tongue positions and movements needed to produce these sounds more accurately in American English, including how the tongue needs to change depending on the sound and where it occurs.

You’ll practice these sounds through guided words, phrases, and articulation exercises so you can begin using your new tongue control in real pronunciation.

By the end of this module, you’ll be much more prepared to approach American English sounds with the tongue shapes, positions, and movements they actually require.

"While other accent video courses and resources follow a "tips and tricks" approach, Mary's materials take a completely different approach. They focus on building a strong foundation of muscle habits.

It's a more challenging method, but definitely the right one for those looking to *really* achieve a native American accent. The videos are top-notch in production quality, density, and value."

Frequently Asked Questions

Hey, I'm Mary El

American Accent Coach for Professionals

I’m an American accent coach who specializes in helping non-native English speakers develop a clearer, more natural American accent.

My approach goes far beyond telling you to “move your tongue here” or “make this sound.” I teach the small details of tongue position, tongue shape, and muscle coordination that affect how an American English sound is actually produced.

I’ve worked with professionals from a wide range of language backgrounds, including Spanish, Russian, Polish, Chinese, French, Italian, Arabic, and German. Over the years, I’ve developed a detailed training system that addresses both the American English sound system and the physical skills needed to produce it.

This course brings that training system together so you can work through it independently, with the same level of detail I use when teaching clients privately.
